Saturday, April 10, 2010 @ 07:04 PM  posted by rob.dunford

Step #3 in how to Build Your Own Website in 5 Easy Steps focused on Completing Settings for your private Lasting Links website.

Now let’s get into the fun stuff in Step #4, Inviting Members.

To begin this step, as usual, log on to your private website (Go to www.lastinglinks.com and click the “Member Login” button on the right near the top of any of the blogs. Type in your username and password and click, “Submit”.)

1. Click the “settings” menu in the upper right-hand corner:

01 Click the settings menu

2. Click “invite members”:

02 Click invite members

3. Add names and email addresses and select membership type from the drop-down list. Check your invitation message to make sure it says what you want it to say. Send your invitations:

03 Add names and addresses

4. Go to the “member list” by clicking “settings” menu again in the upper right corner and then clicking “member list”. All of the members of your site are shown below. You can click on the member’s first name to see their profile and change their profile if you are an administrator. Clicking on any of the column headings (First Name, Last Name, etc.) will change the order of the list:

04 Go to the member list

5. Make member groups, if desired, by clicking “settings” menu again in the upper right corner and then clicking “member groups.” Member groups are used to share content (such as photos or articles) with one or more members on your website. Once you have created a member group and added members to it, you will be able to use that member group when adding new content and only those members in the group will be able to see what you’ve shared:

05 Add new groups, if desired

Click on the group name to edit it, click on the list of member names to add or delete members from the group, or click ‘add new group’ to add a new member group. Clicking ‘delete group’ will delete the member group.

6. Email members of your website individually or as a group by clicking the “settings” menu again in the upper right corner and then clicking “email members”:

06 Email members, choose one or multiple

If you need to send emails to more than one member, click ‘multiple members’ and choose from multiple members, member groups, and/or special member categories such as members that have not logged in or posted any new content recently.

7. When choosing multiple members or member groups, you can hold down the control key (‘ctrl’ or ‘control’) and click more than one option:

07 Highlight the names you want to email

8. Add “subject”, “message”, and click “send”:

08 Add subject, message and click send
