Build Your Own Website in 5 Easy Steps: Step #5, Working Together

Saturday, April 10, 2010 @ 07:04 PM  posted by rob.dunford

Step #4 in how to Build Your Own Website in 5 Easy Steps focused on Inviting Members to your private Lasting Links website. Now let’s review the last step, Step #5, Working Together to accomplish something.

One of the best, most beneficial aspects of your private Lasting Links website is the platform it provides to collaborate and communicate with others in your group.

Let’s assume you and your relatives want to make a book of remembrance on the lives of a loved one. We’ll use the content posted on the Franklin and Laura June Cole family website for our example.

First of all, we suggest you envision the end of your project from the beginning. You may want to get agreement from your group on on such topics as:
What it is you want to accomplish (i.e., your objectives)
Who is going to do it (i.e., assignments)
How it will be done (i.e., your methods)
When it will be done (i.e., your target dates)…

…and then post your decisions in a document along with your content in the various sections. Use the “Discuss” section tool to make assignments, track progress, etc.

Look at the conversation flow in this example to see how this might work for your group:

00 Post your objectives

1. Go to your private website (you know how to do this by now. If not, please contact us for help) and click the “Discuss” tab:

01 Click the Discuss tab

2. Add a New topic or forum by clicking “New forum“:

02 Add a new topic

3. Let the discussion flow:

03 Let the discussion flow!
